Able and Cain 2 - Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:51 am

Historians said: Adam did not die till he saw from among his progeny and
offspring four hundred thousand persons (400.000). Only Allah knows best!
Allah, the Almighty says: {It is He Who has created you from a single
person (Adam), and (then) He has created from him his wife [Hawwa'
(Eve)], in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her.
When he had sexual relation with her, she became pregnant and she
carried it about lightly. Then when it became heavy, they both invoked
Allah, their Lord (saying): "If You give us a Salih (good in every aspect)
child, we shall indeed be among the grateful." But when He gave them
a Salih (good in every aspect) child, they ascribed partners to Him
(Allah) in that which He has given to them. High be Allah, Exalted
above all that they ascribe as partners to Him}. (Al-A'raf, 189, 190) Adam
was mentioned first to draw the attention of the reader of the Qur'an, then

whom was mentioned second was the whole race of mankind. This is done by
way of mentioning the whole race of mankind after mentioning the forefather
thereof; Allah the Almighty says: {And indeed We created man (Adam) out
of an extract of clay (water and earth). Thereafter We made him (the
offspring of Adam) as a Nutfah (mixed drops of the male and female
sexual discharge and lodged it) in a safe lodging (Womb of the
woman)}. (Al-Mu'minun, 12, 13); and in: {And indeed We have adorned
the nearest heaven with lamps, and We have made such lamps (as)
missiles to drive away the Shayatin (devils)}. (Al-Mulk, 5) Where it is wellknown
that the "lamps as missiles" are not the same as lamps of adornment, but
He turned from a single category or person to the whole race.
Adam (Peace be upon him) was. the father of mankind. He was created by
the Hand of Allah Who breathed out of His Soul into him, Who made the Angels
prostrate themselves before him, Who taught him names of everything, and Who
made him dwell in His spacious Paradise. Narrated Ibn Hibban in his Sahih on
the authority of Abu Dharr his saying: "I said, 0 Allah's Messenger! How many
were the Prophets of Allah?' He (Peace be upon him) said: 'One hundred twenty
-four thousands.' I said: 'O Allah's Messenger! How many were the Messengers
among them?' He (Peace be upon him) said: 'Three hundred and thirteen, a
great number!' I said: 'O Allah's Messenger! Who was the first among them? 'He
(Peace be upon him) said: 'Adam.' I said: 'O Allah's Messenger! Was he a
Prophet sent with a Message?' He (Peace be upon him) said: 'Yes, Allah the
Almighty created him with His Hand, then, breathed into him out of His Soul,
then, He fashioned him (in a very proper manner). "
In the Night Journey Hadith that can be found in the two Sahihs -Al-Bukhari
and Muslim -Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said: "So the gate was
opened and we went over the nearest heaven and there we saw a man sitting
with some people on his right and some on his left. When he looked towards his
right, he laughed and when he looked towards his left he wept. Then he said,
'Welcome! 0 pious Prophet and pious son!' I asked Gabriel: 'Who is he?' He
replied: 'He is Adam and the people on his right and left are the souls of his
offspring. Those on his right are the people of Paradise and those on his left are
the people of Hell and when he looks towards his right he laughs and when he
looks towards his left he weeps. " (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Regarding the Prophetic Hadith that reads: "Then, I passed by Yusuf
(Joseph) and I found him to be granted half of beauty."Some scholars explained
that it means that he was given half of the beauty Adam was granted. Indeed,
this is very suitable and convincing! That Allah, the Almighty created Adam,
fashioned him by His Hand and breathed into him out of His Soul, for all these
Allah the Almighty must have created the best of all things.
It was narrated on the authority of `Abdullah Ibn 'Umar and' Abdullah Ibn
'Amr that: When Allah the Almighty created Paradise, the Angels said: "'Our
Lord! Make this for us for You created for mankind the present world in which

they eat and drink.' Allah the Almighty said: 'By My Glory and Loftiness! I will not
equalize between the pious from among those whom I created with My Hand,
and those whom When I said "Be ", they were!" It was narrated in the two
Sahihs -Bukhari and Muslim that Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him)
reported Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) as saying: Allah, the Exalted
and Glorious created Adam in His own image with His length of sixty cubits, and
as He created him He told him to greet that group, and that was a party of
angels sitting there, and listen to the response that they give him, for it would
form his greeting and that of his offspring. Adam then addressed them: Peace be
upon you! They (the angels) said: May there be peace upon you and the Mercy
of Allah, and they made an addition of "Mercy of Allah ". So he who would get
into Paradise would get in the form of Adam, his length being sixty cubits, then
the people who followed him continued to diminish in size up to this day. "(Al-
Bukhari and Muslim)

The Story of Habil and Qabil
“Able and Cain”
The First Crime on Earth
Allah the Almighty says:
{And (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him» recite to them (the
Jews) the story of the two sons of Adam (Habil and Qabil) in truth;
when each offered a sacrifice (to Allah), it was accepted from the one
but not from the other. The latter said to the former: "I will surely kill
you." The former said: "Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are
Al-Muttaqun (the pious)." "If you do stretch your hand against me to
kill me, I shall never stretch my hand against you to kill you: for I fear
Allah, the Lord of the `Alamin (mankind, jinn, and all that exists)."
"Verily, I intend to let you draw my sin on yourself as well as yours,
then you will be one of the dwellers of the Fire; and that is the
recompense of the Zalimin (polytheists and wrong-doers);" So the Nafs
(self) of the other (latter one) encouraged him and made fair-seeming
to him the murder of his brother; he murdered him and became one of
the losers; Then Allah sent a crow who scratched the ground to show
him to hide the dead body of his brother; He (the murderer) said: "Woe
to me! Am I not even able to be as this crow and to hide the dead body
of my brother?" Then he became one of those who regretted}. (Al--
Ma'idah, 27-31)
Narrated As-Sadiy on the authority of Abu Malik and Abu Salih after Ibn
'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) and on the authority of Ibn Mas`ud and
other Companions that Adam (Peace be upon him) used to get the male brought
by one birth married to the female brought by the other. Hence, it was supposed
that Abel would get married to Cain's sister who was better and more beautiful
than anyone else. At the same time, Cain wanted to keep her for himself. Adam
(Peace be upon him) ordered him to allow' Abel to marry her, but he totally
refused. Then, Adam (Peace be upon him) ordered both (Abel and Cain) to offer
a sacrifice to Allah Almighty. Meanwhile, Adam set forth towards Mecca to
perform Pilgrimage. Just before leaving, Adam tried to entrust (the affairs of) his
children to the heavens, the earth and finally to the mountains, but all declined
to shoulder the (heavy) trust. Thereupon, Cain accepted the trust and after
Adam went away they (Abel and Cain) offered their sacrifices to Allah. Abel
offered a fat she-goat, while Cain offered a bundle of bad plants. Later, a fire
came down from heaven and consumed the sacrifice offered by Abel and left
untouched that of Cain. Cain became livid with rage and said to his brother: I will
kill you so as not to marry my sister, Abel said: {Verily, Allah accepts only
from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious)}.
'Abdullah Ibn `Amr (May Allah be pleased with both of them) said: By Allah!
The murdered (Abel) was stronger (than the murderer, Cain), but he refused to
stretch his hand against his brother to kill him due to his piety and God-fearing.
Abu Ja`far Al-Baqir mentioned that Adam (Peace be upon him) was present
there when they offered their sacrifices. After Abel's sacrifice was accepted, Cain
said to his father, Adam: "It was accepted only from him because you invoked
Allah for his sake." And, he secretly intended something against his brother. One
day, Abel was late and Adam sent Cain to look for him. The two brothers met
and Cain said: "Your sacrifice was accepted and mine was not." Abel said:
"{Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the
pious)}." Cain got angry and hit his brother with an iron rod and Abel fell dead
at once.
It was said: Cain killed Abel by throwing a rock at his head while he was
asleep. It was also said: Cain choked Abel violently and bit him to death as
beasts do. However, Abel's saying when Cain threatened to kill him: {If you do
stretch your hand against me to kill me, I shall never stretch my hand
against you to kill you: for I fear Allah, the Lord of the" Alamin
(mankind, jinn, and all that exists)} (Al-Ma'idah, 28 indicated his good
morals and ethics, his fear from Allah, and perfect piety that he may harm his
brother, in contrast with the odious deed intended by his brother, Cain. For this,
Abu Bakrah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (Peace
be upon him) as saying: "'When two Muslims confront each other and the one
amongst them attacks his brother with a weapon, both of them get into Hell-
Fire.' He (Ahnaf, one of the sub-narrators) said: 'I said, or it was said: Messenger
of Allah! It may be the case of one who kills, but what about the slain (why he
would be put in Hell-Fire)?' Thereupon, he (Peace be upon him) said: 'He also
intended to kill his companion. "
Allah the Almighty says: {Verily, I intend to let you draw my sin (on
yourself) as well as yours, then you will be one of the denizens of the
Fire; and that is the recompense of the Zalimun (polytheists and
wrong-doers)}. (Al-Ma'idah, 29) i.e. I do not intend to fight against you
though I am myself far stronger and tougher than you are, but you will {draw
my sin on yourself as well as yours}, i.e. you will bear the sin of murdering
me along with your previous sins.
Narrated Imam Ahmed, Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi on the authority of Sa'd Ibn
Abu Waqqas his statement upon the ordeal of `Uthman Ibn `Affan that reads: I
testify that Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) said: "There will be soon a
period of turmoil in which the one who sits will be better than one who stands
and the one who stands will be better than one who walks and the one who
walks will be better than one who runs." Someone said: 'Allah's Messenger! What
is your opinion if someone entered my home and stretched his hand to kill me?'
Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) said: 'Be just like the son of Adam
(Abel). "Narrated by Ibn Mardwiyah after Hudhaifah Ibn Al- Yaman in another
wording as saying: "Be just like the best of Adam's two sons."
Imam Ahmed transmitted after Mu`awiyah and Waki` their saying: We were
told by Al- A ` mash on the authority of `Abdullah Ibn Murrah after Masruq after
`Abdullah Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) as saying: The Prophet
(Peace be upon him) said, "None (no human being) is killed or murdered
(unjustly), but a part of responsibility for the crime is laid on the first son of
Adam who invented the tradition of killing (murdering on earth). " (Ahmed's
Musnad)
However, there is a cave, called the "Blood Cave", in a mountain located to
the northern part of Syria. It is thought to be the scene of the crime where Cain
killed his brother Abel. The people living there came to know this through the
People of the Book (Christians and Jews) and only Allah Almighty knows the
validity or realness of this. .Al-Hafiz Ibn `Asakir mentioned in the biography of
Ahmed Ibn Katheer that "He (Ahmed) saw in a dream Allah's Messenger (Peace
be upon him), Abu Bakr, `Umar and Abel. Ahmed came to know from Abel -who
took an oath of that- it was his own blood (that was spilt there (in that very
cave)). Abel said that he had asked Allah Almighty to make the invocations and
supplications offered in that place acceptable. Allah accepted his own invocations
and His Messenger, Muhammad (Peace be upon him) believed in that and said: I
(Allah's Messenger), Abu Bakr and `Umar used to visit that place every
Thursday. "However, it is to be stated that this narration represents only a
vision. Even if it were true, no religious ruling can ever be based on such a thing;
and Allah knows best!
Allah Almighty says: {Then, Allah sent a crow who scratched the
ground to show him how to hide the dead body of his brother. He (the
murderer) said: "Woe to me! Am I not even able to be as this crow and
to hide the dead body of my brother? "Then he became one of those
who regretted}. (Al-Ma'idah, 31) Some interpreters said: "After Cain had killed
his brother, he carried him on his back for a full year (not knowing what to do
with his brother's corpse!)." Others said: He carried him on his back for one
hundred years till Allah Almighty sent two crows who fought against one
another. One of them was killed. The murderer scratched the ground to hide the
body of the dead crow. Seeing him doing that, Cain said: Woe to me! Am I not
even able to do as this crow and to hide the dead body of my brother? Then, he
buried the body of his dead brother and covered it with earth.
Historians said: Adam became very sick at heart and felt great sorrow for his
dead son, Abel. Mujahid said: Cain was brought punishment very soon
afterwards. On the same day he killed his brother, Abel, his foot was tied up to
his thighbone and his face was forcibly directed up to the sun disk. His face used
to go where the sun goes as a way of punishment and penalty in return for what
he had done to his own brother. Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) said:
"There is no sin more recurring punishment (very rapidly) in the present life,
along with what awaits for its doer in the Hereafter, than transgression and
severing the ties of relationship. "
Imam Abu J a' far mentioned in his Tarikh "History" on the authority of some
people who had said: Eve gave birth to forty children through twenty births. Ibn
Ishaq viewed the same and he mentioned their names in detail. However,
nothing is sure of their names or numbers. Only Allah knows best and no one
else can know their exact number! Others said: there were one hundred and
twenty births, in each one a male and a female were born. The first among them
were Cain and his sister Qalimah, and the last ones were `Abdul Mughith and his
sister Ummul Mughith. Then, humans increased in number and spread into the
earth. Allah Almighty says: {O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who
created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He
created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them both He created many
men and women; and fear Allah through Whom you demand (your
mutual rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship).
Surely, Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over you}. (An-Nisa', 1)

Islamic family relations - Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:12 am

Islamic family relations concerns both the close family as well as the more distant families. Several hadith stress the importance of keeping family relations alive and recommend that even distant relations are to be visited, even if would take a year to travel to them. Brothers and sisters at home should help their mother when she becomes unable to support her children alone. At the same time brothers and sisters should be benevolent to each other. Islam strongly supports this interaction between each other. In Islam, all muslims are considered brothers and sisters in Islam.

Some hadith state that the person who severs the bond of kinship will not enter Paradise .

Parents
And We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning: (hear the command), "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal. Quran 31:14
Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour. And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: My Lord! bestow on them Your Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood. Quran 17:23-34
Narrated Abu Bakr Allah's Messenger said, "Shall I inform you of the biggest of the great sins?" They said, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger!" He said, "To join partners in worship with Allah, and to be undutiful to one's parents." Sahih Bukhari 8.74.290

And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect. Quran 30:21
And those who pray, "Our Lord! Grant unto us wives and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous." Quran 25:74
Narrated Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas: Allah's Messenger said, "You will be rewarded for whatever you spend for Allah's sake even if it were a morsel which you put in your wife's mouth." Sahih Bukhari 001.002.053
Narrated Al-Aswad: I asked 'Aisha what did the Prophet use to do at home. She replied. "He used to keep himself busy serving his family and when it was time for the prayer, he would get up for prayer." Sahih Bukhari 008.073.065

Children
O you who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is men and stones; over it are angels stern and strong, they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them, and do as they are commanded.Quran 66:6

Deer Camp - Fri Apr 17, 2009 2:30 pm

Three guys were at deer camp. They had to bunk two to a room.

No one wanted to room with Steve because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn't fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns.

The first night, John slept in Steve's room and came to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot. The rest of the guys said, "Man, what happened to you?"

He said, "Steve snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night."

The next night it was Garry's turn. In the morning, same thing--hair all standing up, eyes all blood-shot. Once again they asked, "Man, what happened to you? You look awful!"

He said, "Man, that Steve shakes the roof. I couldn't sleep a wink. I just watched him all night."

The third night was Herb's turn. Herb was a big burly guy who loved to fish and hunt -- a man's man.

The next morning he came to breakfast bright eyed and bushy tailed. "Good morning," he said.

The guys couldn't believe it! They said, "Man, what happened?"

He said, "Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Steve into bed and kissed him good night. He sat up and watched me all night long."

20 years with my wife - Fri Apr 17, 2009 2:24 pm

A woman awoke during the night to find that her husband was not in bed. She put on her robe and went downstairs. He was sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front of him. He appeared to be deep in thought, just staring at the wall. She saw him wipe a tear from his eye and take a sip of his coffee.

"What's the matter dear? Why are you down here at this time of night?" she asked.

"Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating and you were only 16?" he asked.

"Yes I do." she replied.

"Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car?"

"Yes I remember."

"Do you remember your father when he shoved that shotgun in my face and said.'Either you marry my daughter or spend twenty years in jail'?"

"Yes I do", she replied.

He wiped another tear from his cheek and said, " You know I would have gotten out today."

The Unique Gift of Life - Fri Apr 17, 2009 2:08 pm

Your life is a very precious gift from God. Count back to one year before your first birthday, and then try to imagine your state - your state of nothingness. You can not. You may be able to contain and grasp "things," not "nothing." You were born and came to life, not because you wanted to, but because you became. Through a decision by an authority higher than you, and through a process that you did not participate in, you came to occupy a place in existence.

With the dramatic event of your birth, you came to life with three huge realities.

First, you are unique. Nobody else is identical to you, not even your identical twin or, in this age of cloning, even your clone, because your psychological, spiritual and energetic content is poured into your physical being in a unique way. When God blows a spirit into each individual, it manifests in a special way. You are one of a kind.

Second, you are immortal. Your biological structure, which is the product of the substance of earth, will degrade and recycle in the biological cycle on earth, but your energy, soul and spirit will always be. If you appreciate your uniqueness and your immortality, your individual values, responsibility and accountability will emerge. God reminds us in the Qur'an that;

"[And God shall say.'] "And now, indeed, you have come unto Us in a lonely state, even as We created you in the first instance,' and you have left behind you, all that We bestowed on you [in your lifetime]. And we do not see with you those intercessors of yours whom you supposed to have a share in Gods divinity with regard to yourselves! Indeed, all the bonds between you [and your earthly life] are now severed, and all your former fancies have forsaken you!" (6:94)

"and every one of them will appear before Him on Resurrection Day in a lonely state. " (19:95)

The third reality that comes with the happy event of your birth is a cobweb of expanding circles of relationships. These are different from the countless relationships you acquire throughout your life, such as your friends, neighbors, teammates, and spouses. The first package of relationships that come with your birth day are not subject to your choice; you do not choose your parents, siblings, kin, ancestors, race, gender, place of birth or even country of origin. This category of relationships is a gift form God, you accept, appreciate, and nurture. While the acquired relationships like spouse, friends, and career need prudence.

While you will inevitably gain and lose, everything you lose may be regained, except one thing, time.

It is interesting that you probably know the exact time, date and place of when and where your birth took place, but this is only because you were told about it. What is less clear is the elusive and mystical moment you truly became aware of your existence. This blurry time, when you became cognizant that you are you, and that you actually exist, just snuck up on you. From the moment of that realization, each individual experiences life in a unique way. While you may be exposed to the same circumstances as many others, how you feel, perceive, taste, understand and react to life circumstances is unique to you.

During the predetermined length of your life, you embark on new information, experiences, and habits in which you learn and perform as a human on this planet. While you will inevitably gain and lose, everything you lose may be regained, except one thing, time. If you lose time, it is gone. Any period of time is a chunk of life, both precious and irretrievable. Based on these simple realities, you will have some basic decisions to make: Are you going to waste your life or are you going to use it? Is your life going to center around you or will you reach wider spheres of involvement and concern? Wasting life partially or totally, i.e. in one lump or in installments, all can be considered a crime close to murder or suicide, even if the gradual waste does not seem that dramatic.

There are many forms and ways to waste a lifetime. With a careful look around you, you can recognize many of them: leading an aimless and purposeless life; abusing your own body, mind and soul; eroding the environment, being shallow and inefficient; all are ways to let the wonderful opportunity that we call life slip away. A life centered on your own self is selfish and never provides fulfillment. Since human beings are interdependent, you will not be happy if surrounded by unhappiness, envy, and animosity. A life that is not dedicated to a higher cause is an elusive quest for unattainable happiness.

There are three elements to what may be described as a happy life:

a life that is fully utilized (i.e. a life of awareness and purposeful activism),
a life that is dedicated to a higher cause,
and a life that is lived in balance.
The concept of balance is very important because an imbalanced life is one that is not in harmony with the laws of nature or existence. Nature is in perfect balance and is all around us, from the orbits to the galaxies to the structure of molecules and atoms to the diversity of species to the physiology within any unit of these species. A simple example which demonstrates this point lies within your own body. Anatomically, you are a fusion of two halves in balance (eyes, ears, nostrils, limbs). The right and left brain are distinct but, through their connection, maintain balanced performance. Perfect balance further exists between the muscles of flexion and extension, the structure of your skeleton, and in the miraculous work of the endocrinal and hormonal system.

The balance that exists between the spiritual and moral, through the soul, body, and intellect, gives you the ability to see and recognize the fine lines in behavior, that if crossed, will lead to imbalance. The line that exists between courage and recklessness, caution and cowardice, saving and stinginess, honesty and rudeness, generosity and squandering, pride and arrogance.

Conversely, injustice, encroachment on the rights of others, bias and double standards all act to tilt the scale of balance and run contrary to the laws of existence and the nature of creation as manifested in the large and small creatures within the kingdom of God. God says in the Qur'an:

"And the skies.' has He raised high and has devised [for all things] a measure so that you [too, 0 humanity,] might never transgress the measure [of what is right].' weigh, therefore, [your deeds] with equity, and cut not the measure short!" (55:7-9)

Within this framework of understanding and appreciation of the simple unadulterated nature of life and creation lies the true understanding of Islam. Islam is the affirmation of these basics. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described the religion as "Deen al Fitra,Ó" meaning the way of the unadulterated original nature and as the Qur'an described:

"And do, set thy face steadfastly towards the [one ever-true] faith, turning away from all that is false, in accordance with the natural disposition which God has instilled into humanity.' [for] not to allow any change to corrupt what God has thus created - this is the [purpose of the one] ever-true faith,' but most people know it not."
(30:30)

Through integrating these basic realities of life with the message of God and His call to comply to His will - which is manifested in His natural laws of existence in its universality, global humanity and harmony as comprehensive, internal, and external peace - that you can become a Muslim, citizen of the world, mercy to all, guardian of justice, supporter and enjoiner of what is good, opposer of what is evil, and promoter of human dignity for all.

Only then can you cooperate with those who seek righteousness and awareness. Only then will Islam be your zone of comfort, will you come home to Islam, feel complete harmony and be liberated not shackled, lightened not burdened, natural not artificial. Only then will your life as a Muslim be to enjoy not endure, allowing you to be yourselves, not a facade.

So for the Human Race, We May Say: Happy Birthday!

Story of Prophet hud(pbuh) - Fri Apr 17, 2009 1:43 pm

The people of 'Ad lived many years in the windswept hills of an area between Yemen and Oman. They were physically well-built and renowned for their craftsmanship especially in the construction of tall buildings with lofty towers. They were outstanding among all the nations in power and wealth, which, unfortunately, made them arrogant and boastful. Their political power was held in the hand of unjust rulers, against whom no one dared to raise a voice.

They were not ignorant of the existence of Allah, nor did they refuse to worship Him. What they did refuse was to worship Allah alone. They worshiped other gods, also, including idols. This is one sin Allah does not forgive.

Allah wanted to guide and discipline these people, so He sent a prophet from among them. This prophet was Hud , a noble man who handled his task with great resoluteness and tolerance.

Ibn Jarir reported that he was Hud Ibn Shalikh, Ibn Arfakhshand, Ibn Sam, Ibn Noah . (i.e. 5th generation of Prophet Noah) He also reported that Prophet Hud was from a tribe called 'Ad Ibn 'Uus Ibn Sam Ibn Noah, who were Arabs living in Al-Ahqaf in Yemen between Oman and Hadramaut, on a land called Ashar stretching out into the sea. The name of their valley was Mughiith.

Some traditions claimed that Hud was the first person who spoke Arabic, while others claimed that Noah was the first. It was also said that Adam was the first.

Hud condemned idol worship and admonished his people: "My people, what is the benefit of these stones that you carve with your own hands and worship? In reality it is an insult to the intellect. There is only One Deity worthy of worship and that is Allah. Worship of Him, and Him alone, is compulsory on you.

"He created you, He provides for you and He is the One Who will cause you to die. He gave you wonderful physiques and blessed you in many ways. So believe in Him and do not be blind to His favors, or the same fate that destroyed Noah's people will overtake you."

With such reasoning Hud hoped to instill faith in them, but they refused to accept his message. His people asked him: "Do you desire to be our master with your call? What payment do you want?"

Hud tried to make them understand that he would receive his payment (reward) from Allah; he did not demand anything from them except that they let the light of truth touch their minds and hearts.

Allah the Almighty states: And to 'Ad (people We sent) their brother Hud. He said, "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (god) but Him, Certainly, you do nothing but invent (lies)! O my people I ask of you no reward for it (the Message). My reward is only from Him Who created me. Will you not then understand? And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as Mujrimeen (criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah)."

They said: "O Hud! No evidence have you brought us, and we shall not leave our gods for your (mere) saying! And we are not believers in you. All that we say is that some of our gods (false deities) have seized you with evil (madness)."

He said: I call Allah to witness and bear you witness that I am free from that which you ascribe as partners in worship, - with Him (Allah). So plot against me, all of you, and give me no respite. I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord! There was not a moving (living) creature but He has grasp of its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path (the truth). So if you turn away, still I have conveyed the Message with which I was sent to you. My Lord will make another people succeed you, and you will not harm Him in the least. Surely, my Lord is Guardian over all things." 1

Hud tried to speak to them and to explain about Allah's blessings: how Allah the Almighty had made them Noah's successors, how He had given them strength and power, and how He sent them rain to revive the soil.

Hud's people looked about them and found they were the strongest on earth, so they became prouder and more obstinate. Thus they argued a lot with Hud. They asked: "O Hud! Do you say that after we die and turn into dust, we will be resurrected?" He replied: "Yes, you will come back on the Day of Judgment and each one of you will be asked about what you did."

A peal of laughter was heard after the last statement. "How strange Hud's claims are!" The disbelievers muttered among themselves. They believed that when man dies his body decays and turns into dust which is swept away by the wind. How could that return to its original state? Then what is the significance of the Day of Judgment? Why do the dead return to life?

All these questions were patiently received by Hud. He then addressed his people concerning the Day of Judgment. He explained that belief in the Day of Judgment is essential to Allah's justice, teaching them the same thing that every prophet taught about it.

Hud explained that justice demands that there be a Day of Judgment because good is not always victorious in life. Sometimes evil overpowers good. Will such crimes go unpunished? If we suppose there is no Day of Judgment, then a great injustice will have prevailed, but Allah has forbidden injustice to be incurred by Himself or His subjects. Therefore, the existence of the Day of Judgment, a day of accounting for our deeds and being rewarded or punished for them, reveals the extent of Allah's justice. Hud spoke to them about all of these things. They listened but disbelieved him.

Allah recounts his people's attitude towards the Day of Judgment: And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the meeting in the Hereafter, and to who We had given the luxuries and comforts of this life, said: "He is no more then a human being like you, he eats of that which eat, and drinks of what you drink. If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers. Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones , you shell come out alive (resurrected)? Far, very far, is that which you are promised. There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 2

The chiefs of Hud's people asked: "Is it not strange that Allah chooses one of us to reveal His message to?"

Hud replied: "What is strange in that? Allah wants to guide you to the right way of life, so He sent me to warn you. Noah's flood and his story are not far away from you, so do not forget what happened. All the disbelievers were destroyed, no matter how strong they were."

"Who is going to destroy us, Hud?" the chiefs asked.

"Allah," replied Hud.

The disbelievers among his people answered: "We will be saved by our gods."

Hud clarified to them that the gods they worshiped would be the reason for their destruction, that it is Allah alone Who saves people, and that no other power on earth can benefit or harm anyone.

The conflict between Hud and his people continued. The years passed, and they became prouder, more obstinate, more tyrannical and more defiant of their prophet's message.

Furthermore, they started to accuse Hud of being a crazy lunatic. One day they told him: "We now understand the secret of your madness: you insulted our gods and they harmed you; that is why you have become insane."

Almighty Allah repeated their words in the Qur'an: "O Hud! No evidence have you brought us, and we shall not leave our gods for your (mare) saying! And we are not believers in you. All that we say is that some of our gods (false deities) have seized you with evil (madness)." 3

Hud had to return their challenge. He had no other way but to turn to Allah alone, no other alternative but to give them a threatening ultimatum. He declared to them: " I call Allah to witness and bear you witness that I am free from that which you ascribe as partners in worship with Him (Allah). So plot against me, all of you and give me no respite. I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord! There is not a moving (living) creature but He has grasp of its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path (the truth). So if you turn away, still I have conveyed the message with which I was sent to you. My Lord will make another people succeed you, and you will not harm Him." 4

Thus Hud renounced them and their gods and affirmed his dependence on Allah Who had created him. Hud realized that punishment would be incurred on the disbelievers among his people. It is one of the laws of life. Allah punishes the disbelievers, no matter how rich, tyrannical, or great they are.

Hud and his people waited for Allah's promise. A drought spread throughout the land, for the sky no longer sent its rain. The sun scorched the desert sands, looking like a disk of fire which settled on people's heads.

Hud's people hastened to him asking: "What is that drought, Hud?"

Hud answered: "Allah is angry with you. if you believe in Him, He will accept you and the rain will fall and you will become even stronger than you are."

They mocked him and became more obstinate, sarcastic and perverse in their unbelief. The drought increased, the trees turned yellow, and plants died.

A day came when they found the sky full of clouds. Hud's people were glad as they came out of their tents crying: "A cloud which will give us rain!"

The weather changed suddenly from burning dry and hot to stinging cold, with wind that shook everything: trees, plants, tents, men and women. The wind increased day after day and night after night.

Hud's people started to flee. They ran to their tents to hide, but the gale became stronger, ripping their tents from their stakes. They hid under cloth covers, but the gale became stronger still and tore away the covers. It slashed clothing and skin. It penetrated the apertures of the body and destroyed it. It hardly touched anything before it was destroyed or killed, its core sucked out to decompose and rot. The storm raged for eight days and seven nights.

Almighty Allah recounts: Then, when they saw it as a dense cloud coming towards their valleys, they said: "This is a cloud bringing us rain!" Nay, but it is that (torment) which you were asking to be hastened! - a wind wherein is a painful torment! Destroying everything by the command of its Lord! 5

Allah the Exalted described it thus: And as for 'Ad, - they were destroyed by a furious violent wind which Allah imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed) as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees! 6

That violent gale did not stop until the entire region was reduced to ruins and its wicked people destroyed, swallowed by the sands of the desert. Only Hud and his followers remained unharmed. They migrated to Hadramaut and lived there in peace, worshiping Allah, their true Lord.

The Prophet’s Way of Applying Love - Sun Mar 29, 2009 7:11 am

To apply love between couples you need to be an inventor, a creative woman like Lady Aisha. Lady Safiea (May Allah be pleased with her) asked Aisha one day to try to let the Prophet excuse her because he was angry with her because of some matter and she will give Aisha her day. Lady Aisha wore a long saffron colored veil after and spread water on it to make it smell well. She went to the Prophet and sat beside him but he said: "Aisha, go now it is not your day." She said: "It's the favor of Alla being given to whom he want" and she told him the story.

A woman asked Lady Aisha about henna. She replied:” My beloved (PBUH) loved its color and hated its smell.” Notice how she used the love language in describing the Prophet’s opinion.

From the Prophet’s side, he has also his ways in applying love.

Lady Aisha was asked about the first thing the Prophet was making when entering his home. She replied: he was using siwak (arak stick for tooth cleaning).Narrated by Muslim

Some scholars said that the Prophet did that to kiss his wives when arriving home.

Al Bukhary narrated :”Lady Aisha said that she was perfuming her husband; his head and beard. She was also combing the Prophet's hair even if she was menstruating."

Now some of men don't beautify themselves for their wives besides the bad smell of smoking persons. Some don't care for their bodies and armpits smell, clothes, hairs and nails. They neglect embellishments towards their women.

Women have rights to see and smell all good from their husbands. Follow the Prophet’s example in that matter and you will see how these things increases love between husbands and wives.

Ibn Abbas said that he was beautifying himself for his wife because it is her right to see him in his best conditions as he likes the same from her.

The Almighty Allah said: ". And they (women) have rights (over their husbands) similar (to those of their husbands) over them to what is reasonable "(Al Bakara:228)

Another example :

A women came to Omar Ibn Elkhatab and asked him to divorce her from her husband. When the Khaliefa saw him he knew the reason of his wife’s hatered towards him. So he ordered him to have a bath, adjust his nails, his hair and his clothes. His wife didn't recognize him at the beginning, then she knew him and yielded the idea of divorce because she became very happy with this great change.

Yahia Ibn Abdelrahman Alhandhaly mentioned that he saw Muhammad Ibn Alhanafia in a red wrap and his beard was dropping some scents from it. When he asked him about that, he answered him that it is for the sake of his wife who likes to see him like that, the same way he likes to see her in.

Learn the ways of increasing love between you and your wife…Follow the example of the Prophet and his companions May Allah be pleased with them…

Apply what you like to see from your wife upon yourself to strengthen all love relationships and live a happy live…

Pampering his Wives and Treating them Kindly - Sun Mar 29, 2009 7:08 am

We all read about the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the fields of education, faith, politics, war, or economy but seldom was written or published about his life (PBUH) inside his house and his relationship with his wives. A person well informed about the familial relationships of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) finds out that it included meanings that we desperately miss in our present time. These meanings would contribute to the stability of our homes and marriages. In this article we are giving some examples of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) consideration to the feelings of his wives, his appreciation, and manifestation of love.

Calling one's wife with the name she loves the most or with a nickname or a musical name is one of the forms of pampering and being kind to one's wife. This can be seen in the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who, in a saying 'Hadith' that is agreed upon by scholars, used to say to his wife Ai'sha: "Ai'sh, O Ai'sh, this is Gabriel saying peace be upon you."

He also used to call Ai'sha: "Homayraa'"-a short form of "Hamraa'" which, according to Ibn Kathir in The End 'Al Nehaya' , means the white skinned woman. Althahabi also said that "Hamraa'" in the language of the people of 'Hegaz' means white and blushing-a rare feature among them. So Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to treat Ai'sha kindly and call her with lovely names.

Imam Muslim said that Ai'sha reported that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to kiss one of his wives while fasting which made her laugh may Allah be pleased with her.

In another saying 'Hadith', Ai'sha said that Muhammad (PBUH) said that the best of the believers is the one who is best in manners and kindest to one's wife.

These sayings 'Hadiths' demonstrate how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) cared for his wives and how well he treated Ai'sha may Allah be pleased with her. One of the forms of cuddling and well treating one's wife is feeding her with one's own hands. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Whatever you spend is considered charity even the mouthful that you put in your wife's mouth." Even the food that one feeds one's wife with one's hands is considered an act of charity that is rewarded by Allah (SBWT) and not only an action that guarantees one her love and cooperation.

Cuddling and being kind to one's wife has a tremendous emotional effect on her. This action of following the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) costs a man nothing and grants him Allah's reward, his wife's love and cooperation. Therefore a man is commanded to cuddle and treat his wife kindly.

A man's nature dictates him a certain way of expressing his feelings and it is different from a woman's. A woman expresses her love with words like, I love you, I miss you, I need you, etc. On the other hand, a man expresses love in action and production and seldom with words. If a man wants to tell his wife that he loves her he buys her something she wants or brings some food and drinks or furniture to the house. According to a man, this is a form of expression.

The generous Prophet has indeed overcome this negative trait in the nature of men. He used to describe his love and passion verbally for Lady Ai'sha may Allah be pleased with her, treated her kindly, pamperd her, and let his wives hear what they wished for from their beloved husband. This is an important aspect in a relationship. Ibn Assaker narrated that Lady Ai'sha may Allah be pleased with her said that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told her: "I could not care less to die knowing that you are my wife in heaven." Imagine Lady Ai'sha's emotions having heard the words that guaranteed her security, love and peace in this life and in the hereafter.

Al Aas Ibn Al Rabee' the husband of Zaynab the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) leaves Makkah escaping Islam. She sends him to return and embrace Islam. He sends her a letter, an extract of which is: "By Allah, I don't see your father as an offender and I love nothing more than following the same rout with you dear beloved. However, I hate being said that your husband has let his people down. Would you consider this and pardon me?" The letter demonstrates that Al Aas loved zaynab and wanted to be with her in whatever road. Moreover he hated that people would talk in a way that displeases her. At the end he asks her to consider and pardon him, for the sake of that love Zaynab could go to him and return with him a Muslim.

Some writers demonstrate the respect of the West to women by giving examples like a husband opening the door to the car to his wife. At the surface, this is respect. However, a mature person can see many aspects in which a woman is being offended and disrespected in the West. Muslims do not have the issue of man/woman conflict because they believe each one completes the other and that mutual respect is a must.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is our example in this. One time during his stay alone in adoration of Allah in the last ten days of Ramadan, his wife Lady Safeya came to visit him and spoke with him for some time then went to the door. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) led her to the door to say goodbye. In another narration, he told her: "Do not hurry to leave till I come with you." Her house was at Ussama's and he (PBUH) left with her. Respect is the source of continual love and stability in a family. Therefore we wish it to prevail between a man and a wife.

If spouses treated each other in such way, a marriage would definitely be beautiful. We desperately need to leaf through the life of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Islamic history to discover the most beautiful theories in the art of marriage.
